I have to admit -- I'm more than a little cagey when it comes to mechanics. As a single woman, all too often I get the feeling that mechanics see me and think they have the right to soak me when it comes to car repair. So, when my car started acting up, I decided to go with one of the AAA-recommended repair shops. My reasoning was that if I had a negative experience, at least I would have some recourse through AAA. I had had previous experience with Tulsa Automotive Repair a couple of years back when they installed a battery in my car and thought their serviceman was fast, efficient and friendly. So, on this basis, I decided to have AAA tow my car to their 51st Street facility. Within about 20 minutes of my car being picked up from my office I received a telephone call, informing me my car had arrived. I was floored -- no car repair facility had ever taken the time for this courtesy! Less than two hours later I was called again, telling me that nothing was wrong with my car other than it needed a tune-up, and a couple of belts were worn. No high pressure to sell me hundreds of dollars worth of additional repairs. The receptionist apologized that the car might not be ready that day (the car didn't even reach the shop until 2:00 p.m. that afternoon), but they'd have it for me the next day. By 10 a.m. the next day I was called and told my car was ready. I picked up the car around 1:00 p.m. and was pleasantly surprised to see a very nice waiting area and reception desk. The receptionist was pleasant, friendly and professional. She took the time to explain my bill and the work that had been done. She expained when the car was taken for a test drive the mechanic noticed my windshield wiper blades needed replacement, which was handled. This was something the folks at Jiffy Lube didn't do on two ocassions when I requested it. After I left, I noticed that the window sealing strip, which had been coming loose, had been secured. Highly recommended!
